Regular Season Round 14: USK Praha - UMMC 52-69

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Praha. First ranked Russian UMMC Ekaterinburg faced 3rd ranked Czech USK Praha. Guests from Ekaterinburg (12-2) defeated host USK Praha (8-6) 69-52. It looked good early as USK Praha took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then UMMC Ekaterinburg had a 22-17 second period charge getting the lead and USK Praha was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-69. UMMC Ekaterinburg dominated on the defensive end, holding USK Praha to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Spanish forward Alba Torrens (188-89) notched 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Italian-American Diana Taurasi (182-82, college: Connecticut) supported her with 21 points and 4 steals. UMMC Ekaterinburg's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 12 points and 8 rebounds by American power forward Kia Vaughn (193-87, college: Rutgers) did not help to save the game for USK Praha. Spanish guard Laia Palau (177-79) added 9 points and 7 assists for the hosts. UMMC Ekaterinburg have an impressive five-game winning streak. Despite that victory UMMC Ekaterinburg went down to ninth position (Group B) due to points difference. Defending Czech champion USK Praha dropped to the eleventh place with six games lost.
