Regular Season Round 1: Baskonia - Anadolu Efes 85-84

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Turkish Anadolu Efes (0-1) in Vitoria. Visitors were edged by Spanish Baskonia (1-0) 85-84. Anadolu Efes were ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 17-11 charge of Baskonia, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Anadolu Efes 38-22 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Anadolu Efes were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Italian power forward Andrea Bargnani (213-85) stepped up and scored 26 points for the winners and Georgia forward Tornike Shengelia (205-91) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Baskonia's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Derrick Brown (203-87, college: Xavier) responded with 16 points and the other American import guard Bryce Cotton (185-92, college: Providence) scored 13 points. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Baskonia will play against Zalgiris (#14) in Kaunas in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Anadolu Efes will play on the road against Olympiacos in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
