Regular Season Round 6: FC Barcelona - Zalgiris 92-86
Date: November 10, 2016
There was no surprise when 15th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (1-5) were defeated on the road by seventh ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (4-2) 92-86 on Thursday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-12. But Zalgiris won second period 23-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. FC Barcelona made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. Zalgiris were plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll.) who scored 20 points. American power forward Joey Dorsey (206-83, college: Memphis) chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds. Four FC Barcelona players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Australia power forward Brock Motum (208-90, college: Washington St.) who recorded 26 points (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) and Brazilian center Augusto Lima (207-91) added 7 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Barcelona have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams. Zalgiris lost fourth consecutive game. Defending Lithuania champion dropped to the bottom position with five games lost. FC Barcelona will face Olympiacos (#8) in Athens in the next round where they are favorite. Zalgiris will play at home against Galatasaray (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
