Regular Season Round 6: Galatasaray - Olympiacos 89-87

Turkish Galatasaray can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Greek Olympiacos (3-3) 89-87 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-87. Strangely Olympiacos outrebounded Galatasaray 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 59.1 percentage. American point guard Justin Dentmon (183-85, college: Washington) scored 22 points to lead the charge for the winners and Sinan Guler (192-83, college: Carroll, MT, agency: 1x1 Sports) chipped in 7 points, 12 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Evangelos Mantzaris (196-90) with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Canadian center Khem Birch (208-92, college: UNLV) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Four Galatasaray and five Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Galatasaray (1-5) left bottom position moving up to fifteenth place, which they share with Zalgiris. Defending Greek champion Olympiacos dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. They share it with EA7 Armani. Galatasaray will meet bottom-ranked Zalgiris (#16) in the next round. Olympiacos will play against FC Barcelona (#5) and hope to secure a win.
