Regular Season Round 8: Unics - Maccabi T-A 73-74

Important game to mention about took place in Kazan. Tenth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (4-4) saved a 1-point derby victory on the road edging 15th ranked Russian Unics Kazan (2-6) 74-73 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-17. But Unics Kazan won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) who added 11 points and 6 assists during the contest. Maccabi T-A's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) responded with 22 points and forward Pavel Antipov (203-91) scored 12 points. Maccabi T-A moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Unics Kazan dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Maccabi T-A will face higher ranked Olympiacos (#4) in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Unics Kazan will play on the road against the league's second-placed Real Madrid (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
