Regular Season Round 9: Zalgiris - Brose Bask. 86-72

Everything could happen in Kaunas at the game between two tied teams. Both fourteenth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris and 16th ranked German Brose Baskets had identical 2-6 record. This time Zalgiris used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Bamberg 86-72. It looked good early as Brose Baskets took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 29-17 second period charge getting the lead and Brose Baskets were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-86. Zalgiris made 17-of-18 charity shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Zalgiris outrebounded Brose Baskets 34-16 including a 14-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Paulius Jankunas (205-84) nailed 23 points and 9 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) accounted for 19 points and 6 assists. Zalgiris' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Daniel Theis (204-92, agency: Octagon Europe) came up with 15 points and French Fabien Causeur (195-87) added 12 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively for Brose Baskets in the defeat. Four Brose Baskets players scored in double figures. Defending Lithuanian champion (3-6) moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Galatasaray. Brose Baskets lost fourth consecutive game. Defending German champion stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be higher ranked Crvena Zvezda (#10) in Beograd and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brose Baskets will play at home against the league's leader CSKA (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
