There was no surprise when 14th ranked Russian Unics Kazan (2-7) was defeated on the road by second ranked Spanish Real Madrid (7-2) 89-75. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. Unics Kazan was better in second period 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Madrid players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Unics Kazan's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Sergio Llull (190-87) nailed 14 points and 7 assists for the winning side and Felipe Reyes (204-80) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Real Madrid's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Belarusian center Artsiom Parakhouski (211-87, college: Radford) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively for Unics Kazan in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Real Madrid have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Spanish champion maintains second place with 7-2 record behind leader CSKA. Unics Kazan lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifteenth position with seven games lost. Real Madrid's next round opponent will be Fenerbahce (#3) in Istanbul, which may be the game of the day. Unics Kazan will play at home against Armani Milano (#11) and hope to win that game.
