Regular Season Round 10: Crvena Zvezda - Zalgiris 79-88

There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (4-6) won against 10th ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (4-6) in Beograd 88-79. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Zalgiris made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Zalgiris outrebounded Crvena Zvezda 35-20 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Crvena Zvezda helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) fired 19 points for the winners. Center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 20 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Montenegrin-Serbian power forward Milko Bjelica (207-84, agency: BeoBasket) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds and American point guard Nate Wolters (193-91, college: S.Dakota St., agency: Pensack Sports) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Four Crvena Zvezda players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with EA7 Armani and Crvena Zvezda. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be higher ranked Real Madrid (#3) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
