Regular Season Round 11: Baskonia - Darussafaka 73-52
Date: December 9, 2016
Rather expected game in Vitoria where 8th ranked Turkish Darussafaka (5-6) was crushed by fifth ranked Spanish Baskonia (7-4) 73-52. The game was mostly controlled by Baskonia. Darussafaka was better in fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Baskonia dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Darussafaka's 22. They outrebounded Darussafaka 47-28 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Baskonia brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. American point guard Shane Larkin (180-92, college: Miami, FL) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 5 assists. German center Johannes Voigtmann (211-92) contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. French Adrien Moerman (202-88) answered with 7 points and 9 rebounds and American James Anderson (198-89, college: Oklahoma St.) added 11 points in the effort for Darussafaka. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Olympiacos. Darussafaka lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with six games lost. Baskonia's next round opponent will be Unics Kazan (#15) on the road which should be another easy win for them. Darussafaka will play against Real Madrid (#3) and hope to win that game.
