There was a small surprise in Kaunas where thirteenth ranked Russian Unics Kazan (5-9) defeated 11th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (5-9) 88-80 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 30-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Unics Kazan made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) scored 26 points to lead the charge for the winners and Belarusian center Artsiom Parakhouski (211-87, college: Radford) chipped in 24 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. Paulius Jankunas (205-84) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unics Kazan moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Zalgiris. Unics Kazan will face higher ranked Panathinaikos (#4) in Athens in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
