Regular Season Round 14: Panathinaikos - Baskonia 69-68

Important game to mention about took place in Athens. Sixth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (9-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-ranked Spanish Baskonia (9-5) 69-68 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Baskonia. Baskonia was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 14-9 charge of Panathinaikos, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 19 Baskonia turnovers. Strangely Baskonia outrebounded Panathinaikos 40-22 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Baskonia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Chris Singleton (206-89, college: Florida St.) notched 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) supported him with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Even 17 points and 5 rebounds by Georgian forward Tornike Shengelia (206-91) did not help to save the game for Baskonia. Senegalese-Spanish center Ilimane Diop (210-95) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panathinaikos have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Baskonia. Panathinaikos will play against Unics Kazan (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Baskonia will play against Maccabi T-A (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
