Regular Season Round 15: Anadolu Efes - Real Madrid 78-80

A very close game took place in Istanbul between Spanish Real Madrid and Turkish Anadolu Efes. Third ranked Real Madrid (10-5) got a very close victory on the road over 8th ranked Anadolu Efes (7-8). Real Madrid managed to escape with a 2-point win 80-78 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Anadolu Efes were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 19-15 charge of Real Madrid, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for Slovenian point guard Luka Doncic (201-99) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Rudy Fernandez (197-85) helped adding 14 points. The best for the losing side was American forward Derrick Brown (203-87, college: Xavier) with 14 points and 8 rebounds and American-Armenian center Bryant Dunston (203-86) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending Spanish champion maintains third place with 10-5 record having just three point less than leader FC Barcelona, which they share with Olympiacos and Baskonia. Loser Anadolu Efes still keep top position with eight games lost. They share it with FC Barcelona and Crvena Zvezda. Real Madrid will meet at home league's second-placed CSKA in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Anadolu Efes will play against Galatasaray and hope to secure a win.
