Regular Season Round 21: Crvena Zvezda - Anadolu Efes 72-86

We should mention about the upset which took place in Beograd, where higher ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (12-9) lost at home to ninth ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (10-11) 72-86. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Crvena Zvezda. It looked good early as Crvena Zvezda took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Anadolu Efes had a 31-16 second period charge getting the lead and Crvena Zvezda was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-86. Anadolu Efes players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. American forward Derrick Brown (203-87, college: Xavier) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and French guard Thomas Heurtel (189-89, agency: BeoBasket) accounted for 12 points and 15 assists. Forward Marko Simonovic (201-86, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 17 points and 5 rebounds and American-Serbian Charles Jenkins (191-89, college: Hofstra) added 13 points and 7 assists respectively for Crvena Zvezda in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Anadolu Efes moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Darussafaka. Defending Serbian champion Crvena Zvezda keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Anadolu Efes' next round opponent will be Armani Milano (#15) at home and are hoping to win another game. Crvena Zvezda will play against the league's second-placed CSKA (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
