Regular Season Round 12: UNI Gyor - Mersin BSB 54-73

The biggest surprise of round 12 was Turkish guest Mersin BSB's (2-10) easy road victory over 7th ranked Hungarian UNI Gyor (1-11) 73-54 on Thursday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 49-23 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Mersin BSB dominated on the defensive end, holding UNI Gyor to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded UNI Gyor 40-25 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mersin BSB looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian power forward Gintare Petronyte (196-89) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Swedish Abdi Farhiya (188-92) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Mersin BSB players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Cyesha Goree (190-93, college: Michigan, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 8 points and 8 rebounds and Slovakian power forward Zofia Hruscakova (190-95) added 10 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mersin BSB moved-up to seventh place in Group A. UNI Gyor at the other side dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. They share it with CCC Polkowice. Mersin BSB are looking forward to face higher ranked Wisla Can-Pack (#6) in Krakow in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. UNI Gyor will play on the road against Hatay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
