Regular Season Round 23: Brose Bask. - Zalgiris 86-91

Rather expected game in Bamberg where 12th ranked German Brose Baskets (8-15) were defeated by tenth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (10-13) 91-86 on Friday. Brose Baskets were trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 24-18 charge of Zalgiris, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-19 free shots (94.7 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Brose Baskets were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for point guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Paulius Jankunas (205-84) helped adding 24 points and 6 rebounds. Daniel Theis (204-92, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Italian Nicolo Melli (205-91) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Brose Baskets players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains tenth place with 10-13 record. Defending German champion Brose Baskets keep the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Zalgiris will face higher ranked Fenerbahce (#4) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brose Baskets will play on the road against Crvena Zvezda (#6) in Beograd and hope to win that game.
