Regular Season Round 24: Galatasaray - Real Madrid 87-84

Round 24 in Euroleague means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Istanbul where host Turkish Galatasaray (8-16) edged league's leader Spanish Real Madrid (18-6) 87-84 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Real Madrid. Real Madrid trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 24-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 84-87 at the end of the game. Galatasaray looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Austin Daye (211-88, college: Gonzaga, agency: Alti Sport) who scored 20 points and 4 assists. German center Tibor Pleiss (217-89) chipped in 8 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Slovenian point guard Luka Doncic (201-99) who recorded 13 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and American power forward Anthony Randolph (211-89, college: LSU) added 16 points respectively. Four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. Real Madrid's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Galatasaray moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Brose Bask. and Maccabi T-A. Defending Spanish champion Real Madrid dropped to the second position with six games lost. They share it with CSKA. They were replaced at the leadership position by Anadolu Efes. Real Madrid will play next round against Crvena Zvezda trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Galatasaray will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked CSKA in Moscow.
