Regular Season Round 26: Panathinaikos - Real Madrid 88-82
Date: March 16, 2017
Leading Spanish Real Madrid (19-7) recorded its seventh loss in Athens. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (15-11) 88-82. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Strangely Real Madrid outrebounded Panathinaikos 38-26 including 24 on the defensive glass. American forward Chris Singleton (206-89, college: Florida St.) notched 21 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and the other American import point guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) supported him with 14 points. Even 13 points and 9 rebounds by American power forward Anthony Randolph (211-89, college: LSU) did not help to save the game for Real Madrid. Liberian-American power forward Othello Hunter (203-86, college: Ohio St., agency: David Lee Services) added 10 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Baskonia and Crvena Zvezda. Defending Spanish champion Real Madrid still keeps top position with seven games lost. They share it with CSKA. Panathinaikos will play against Armani Milano (#15) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Real Madrid will play against FC Barcelona (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
