Regular Season Round 26: Baskonia - CSKA 79-78

Round 26 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Russian CSKA (19-7). They were edged by seventh ranked Spanish Baskonia (15-11) 79-78 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of CSKA. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-14. But CSKA won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Baskonia dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to CSKA's 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Georgian forward Tornike Shengelia (206-91) scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Hungarian Adam Hanga (199-89, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 15 points and 4 blocks during the contest. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. French Nando De Colo (196-87) responded with 22 points and 6 assists and Serbian point guard Milos Teodosic (195-87) scored 19 points and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Baskonia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Panathinaikos and Crvena Zvezda. Defending Russian champion CSKA still keeps top position with seven games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Real Madrid who have the same record. CSKA will play next round against Darussafaka trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Baskonia will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Brose Baskets in Bamberg.
