Regular Season Round 26: Unics - Zalgiris 80-82

Fifteenth-ranked Russian Unics Kazan (7-19) gave a tough game to tenth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (12-14). The visitors from Kaunas managed to secure only two-point victory 82-80. However their fans expected much easier game. Unics Kazan was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 22-17 third quarter run of Zalgiris. 25 personal fouls committed by Unics Kazan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Paulius Jankunas (205-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Point guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) contributed with 10 points and 5 assists for the winners. Zalgiris' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) replied with 27 points and Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists in the effort for Unics Kazan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains tenth position with 12-14 record. Unics Kazan lost ninth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with 19 games lost. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be higher ranked Anadolu Efes (#8) in Istanbul and it may be quite challenging game. Unics Kazan will play on the road against Galatasaray (#13) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
