Regular Season Round 27: Galatasaray - Unics 75-67

There was no surprise in Istanbul where 15th ranked Russian Unics Kazan (7-20) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Turkish Galatasaray (10-17) 75-67. It looked good early as Unics Kazan took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Galatasaray had a 24-6 second period charge getting the lead and Unics Kazan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-75. Galatasaray dominated on the defensive end, holding Unics Kazan to just 6 points in second quarter. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St., agency: BeoBasket) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. American-Czech swingman Blake Schilb (201-83, college: Loyola, IL, agency: BeoBasket) accounted for 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) came up with 24 points and 6 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Unics Kazan in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Galatasaray moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with FC Barcelona and Maccabi T-A. Unics Kazan lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 20 games lost. Galatasaray's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Darussafaka.
