The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Real Madrid as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Real Madrid defeated 11th ranked FC Barcelona at home 85-69. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. FC Barcelona managed to win third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Madrid dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to FC Barcelona's 18. The best player for the winners was Sergio Llull (190-87) who scored 21 points and 6 assists. Mexican power forward Gustavo Ayon (207-85, college: San Jose St.) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll.) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with CSKA. FC Barcelona at the other side keeps the eleventh place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Maccabi T-A and Galatasaray. FC Barcelona will play next round against Crvena Zvezda trying to get back on the winning streak. Real Madrid will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Olympiacos in Athens.
