Regular Season Round 2: Khimki - Zalgiris 85-77

Russian Khimki defeated Lithuanian Zalgiris at home 85-77. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris won fourth quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimki looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Zalgiris helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American Thomas Robinson (208-91, college: Kansas, agency: GFSG) had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Malcolm Thomas (206-88, college: San Diego St., agency: GFSG) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Khimki players scored in double figures. Paulius Jankunas (205-84) responded with 24 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) and American Aaron White (206-92, college: Iowa) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris will play next round against FC Barcelona trying to get back on the winning streak. Khimki will try to continue on its current victory against Crvena Zvezda in Beograd.
