Regular Season Round 4: Valencia - Unicaja 91-53

Date: October 27, 2017
No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Valencia Basket (3-1) crushed at home 11th ranked Unicaja Malaga (1-3) 91-53 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia Basket. Unicaja Malaga was better in third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valencia Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valencia Basket made 7 blocks. It was a very good performance for American point guard Erick Green (190-91, college: Virginia Tech) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 assists. Alberto Abalde (202-95) contributed with 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Valencia Basket players scored in double figures. Polish Adam Waczynski (199-89) replied with 15 points and American point guard Ray McCallum (190-91, college: Detroit Mercy) added 8 points in the effort for Unicaja Malaga. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valencia Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending Spanish champion moved-up to third place, which they share with CSKA and Khimki. Unicaja Malaga lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with three games lost. Valencia Basket will face Fenerbahce (#10) in Istanbul in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unicaja Malaga will play on the road against Anadolu Efes in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
