Very expected game in Tel-Aviv where 12th ranked Italian Armani Milano (1-4) was defeated by eighth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (3-2) 79-68 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Armani Milano was better in fourth quarter 26-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Armani Milano's 34. They outrebounded Armani Milano 44-24 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American-Israeli center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and American DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Five Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Latvian Dairis Bertans (194-89) responded with 13 points and 4 assists and American center Kaleb Tarczewski (213-93, college: Arizona) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Maccabi T-A moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Armani Milano dropped to the fourteenth position with four games lost. Maccabi T-A will face league's second-placed Real Madrid at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Armani Milano will play against Zalgiris (#10) and hope to win that game.
