Regular Season Round 5: Fenerbahce - Valencia 79-66

There was a surprise result in Istanbul where tenth ranked Turkish Fenerbahce (3-2) defeated higher ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (3-2) 79-66 on Thursday. The game without a history. Fenerbahce led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Valencia Basket's 28. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Czech power forward Jan Vesely (213-90) stepped up and scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Italian forward Luigi Datome (203-87) chipped in 16 points. Five Fenerbahce players scored in double figures. American-Georgian Will Thomas (203-86, agency: Two Points) responded with 5 points and 8 rebounds and Belgian point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-86) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Valencia Basket's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending Turkish champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Valencia Basket. Fenerbahce will face Brose Baskets (#8) in Bamberg in the next round. Valencia Basket will play on the road against CSKA in Moscow and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
