Regular Season Round 6: Maccabi T-A - Real Madrid 90-83

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Spanish Real Madrid (4-2) against fifth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (4-2) on Thursday night. Visiting Real Madrid was defeated by Maccabi T-A in a tough game in Tel-Aviv 83-90. The hosts were ahead by 5 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 26-17 run, which allowed them to win the game. Maccabi T-A dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Real Madrid's 38. They outrebounded Real Madrid 46-28 including 18 on the offensive glass. American DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) notched 21 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and American-Israeli center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Even 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists by Slovenian guard Luka Doncic (201-99) did not help to save the game for Real Madrid. American-Slovenian Anthony Randolph (211-89, college: LSU) added 13 points and 9 rebounds. Five Maccabi T-A and four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi T-A moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Real Madrid. Maccabi T-A's next round opponent will be Anadolu Efes (#15) in Istanbul which should be an easy win for them. Real Madrid will play on the road against Baskonia (#14) in Vitoria and hope to win that game.
