Regular Season Round 9: Fenerbahce - Khimki 71-67
Date: November 24, 2017
6th ranked Russian Khimki (5-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 71-67 loss to leader Turkish Fenerbahce (0-0) in Istanbul. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-15. But Khimki won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 24 personal fouls committed by Khimki helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Brad Wanamaker (193-89, college: Pittsburgh) nailed 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman James Nunnally (201-90, college: UCSB) accounted for 20 points. Four Fenerbahce players scored in double figures. Guard Alexey Shved (198-88, agency: Alti Sport) came up with 21 points and 5 assists and American James Anderson (198-89, college: Oklahoma St.) added 13 points respectively for Khimki in the defeat. Khimki's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Fenerbahce went down to first position due to points difference, which they share with 31 other teams. Khimki lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Fenerbahce's next round opponent will be Baskonia (#11) in Vitoria and are hoping to win another game. Khimki will play at home against Brose Baskets (#8) and hope to win that game.
