Regular Season Round 6: Yakin Dogu - Fenerbahce 72-61

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Yakin Dogu as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group B. Yakin Dogu defeated one of their biggest challengers Fenerbahce in Istanbul 72-61. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Fenerbahce. It was a key game for the top position in Group B. It looked good early as Fenerbahce took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Yakin Dogu had a 18-15 second period charge getting the lead and Fenerbahce was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-72. Yakin Dogu dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Fenerbahce's 34. American center Jantel Lavender (191-88, college: Ohio St.) notched a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import guard Kayla McBride (180-92, college: Notre Dame) supported her with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Even 12 points and 8 rebounds by Czech-American power forward Kia Vaughn (193-87, college: Rutgers) did not help to save the game for Fenerbahce. Swingman Ayse Cora (175-93, agency: 1x1 Sports) added 15 points. Five Yakin Dogu and four Fenerbahce players scored in double figures. Fenerbahce's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Yakin Dogu have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Fenerbahce at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Fenerbahce will play next round against Wisla Krakow trying to get back on the winning streak. Yakin Dogu will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Nadezhda Orenburg on the road.
