Regular Season Round 10: Valencia - Olympiacos 64-72

Very expected game when 12th ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (3-7) lost at home to second ranked Greek Olympiacos (8-2) 72-64. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-13. But Valencia Basket won second period 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Valencia Basket 39-22 including 17 on the offensive glass. Georgios Printezis (204-85, agency: Octagon Europe) had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Kostas Papanikolaou (205-90) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American point guard Erick Green (190-91, college: Virginia Tech) responded with 26 points and German center Tibor Pleiss (217-89) scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with CSKA. Valencia Basket lost sixth consecutive game. Defending Spanish champion keeps the twelfth place with seven games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Olympiacos will play against Real Madrid (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Valencia Basket will play against Maccabi T-A (#5) in Tel-Aviv and hopes to get back on the winning track.
