Regular Season Round 10: Maccabi T-A - Zalgiris 81-74

Everything could happen in Tel-Aviv at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A and 9th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris had identical 5-4 record. This time Maccabi T-A used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Kaunas 81-74. The hosts were already 14 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-16 Zalgiris' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 81-74 at the end of the game. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi T-A especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. American point guard Norris Cole (188-88, college: Cleveland St.) scored 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Australian power forward Jonah Bolden (208-96, college: UCLA) chipped in 6 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks during the contest. At the losing side Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) responded with 12 points and 6 assists and Paulius Jankunas (205-84) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi T-A maintains fifth position with 6-4 record, which they share with Khimki. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Real Madrid and Brose Bask.. Maccabi T-A will play against Valencia Basket (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris will play against Panathinaikos (#3) and hope to get back on the winning track.
