No shocking result in a game in Athens where fourth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (8-4) defeated 14th ranked Italian Armani Milano (3-9) 80-72 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 8 points. Panathinaikos shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Guinea-Bissau KC Rivers (196-87, college: Clemson) who scored 20 points. American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) chipped in 9 points, 12 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Serbian forward Vladimir Micov (201-85, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 13 points and point guard Andrea Cinciarini (193-86) added 7 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Greek champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Fenerbahce. Armani Milano lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with nine games lost. Panathinaikos will face Maccabi T-A (#5) in Tel-Aviv in the next round. Armani Milano will play at home against Baskonia (#8) and hope to win that game.
