Date: December 19, 2017
Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (8-5) defeated 9th ranked German Brose Baskets (6-7) in Kaunas 88-84 on Tuesday. Brose Baskets were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Zalgiris made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) nailed 20 points for the winning side and Paulius Jankunas (205-84) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Dorell Wright (206-85) came up with 22 points and 5 rebounds and American-Italian guard Daniel Hackett (199-87, college: USC) added 17 points respectively for Brose Baskets in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zalgiris have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Khimki. Defending German champion Brose Baskets keep the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Baskonia. Zalgiris will meet bottom-ranked Valencia Basket (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Brose Baskets will play against Real Madrid (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
