Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Spanish Perfumerias Avenida (5-4) was defeated on the road by third ranked Russian UMMC Ekaterinburg (7-2) 60-50. The hosts were ahead by 8 points but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 22-11 run, which allowed them to win the game. UMMC Ekaterinburg dominated on the defensive end, holding Perfumerias Avenida to just 4 points in second quarter. They brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. It was a good game for American center Brittney Griner (203-90, college: Baylor) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Belgian center Emma Meesseman (192-93, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Silvia Dominguez (166-87) answered with 6 points and 6 assists and center Laura Nicholls (189-89, agency: ProDep Management) added 11 points in the effort for Perfumerias Avenida. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for UMMC Ekaterinburg. Defending Russian champion moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Fenerbahce. Defending Spanish champion Perfumerias Avenida dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. UMMC Ekaterinburg's next round opponent will be league's leader Yakin Dogu in Istanbul and it will be for sure the game of the week. Perfumerias Avenida will play on the road against Wisla Krakow and hope to win that game.
