Regular Season Round 14: CSKA - Khimki 79-68

Date: December 22, 2017
Very expected game in Moscow where 6th ranked Khimki (8-6) was defeated by second ranked CSKA (11-3) 79-68 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by CSKA. Khimki was better in third quarter 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when CSKA won last quarter 22-13. They made 29-of-34 free shots (85.3 percent) during the game, while Khimki only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Khimki 35-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Khimki was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Cory Higgins (196-89, college: Colorado) scored 26 points to lead the charge for the winners and Nikita Kurbanov (202-86) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American forward Tyler Honeycutt (203-90, college: UCLA) responded with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Alexey Shved (198-88, agency: Alti Sport) scored 16 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Russian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiacos. Loser Khimki keeps the sixth place with six games lost. CSKA will face Baskonia (#9) in Vitoria in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Khimki will play at home against FC Barcelona and hope to win that game.
