Regular Season Round 15: Valencia - Panathinaikos 67-63

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Greek Panathinaikos (10-5) against fifteenth ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (4-11) on Thursday night. Visiting Panathinaikos were defeated by Valencia Basket in a tough game in Valencia 63-67. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. Panathinaikos were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. It was a great evening for American point guard Erick Green (190-91, college: Virginia Tech) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points. German center Tibor Pleiss (217-89) helped adding 13 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American power forward Chris Singleton (206-89, college: Florida St.) with 9 points and 13 rebounds and American-Belgian guard Matt Lojeski (198-85, college: Hawaii, agency: Pensack Sports) scored 17 points. Panathinaikos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending Spanish champion moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with EA7 Armani and Anadolu Efes. Defending Greek champion Panathinaikos keep the third position with five games lost. They share it with Zalgiris. Valencia Basket will meet higher ranked Unicaja Malaga (#10) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panathinaikos will play against Anadolu Efes (#15) and hope to secure a win.
