Regular Season Round 15: Zalgiris - Olympiacos 74-68

Round 15 in Euroleague means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Kaunas where host Lithuanian Zalgiris (10-5) beat league's leader Greek Olympiacos (11-4) 74-68 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olympiacos. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 26-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) who scored 14 points and 7 assists. Guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) chipped in 14 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American Hollis Thompson (203-91, college: Georgetown) who recorded 10 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import power forward Jamel McLean (203-88, college: Xavier) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Panathinaikos. Olympiacos at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by CSKA. Olympiacos will play next round against Armani Milano trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Zalgiris will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Crvena Zvezda in Beograd.
