Regular Season Round 15: Baskonia - CSKA 81-90

Russian leader CSKA delivered the twelfth victory on Friday night. This time they beat 9th ranked Spanish Baskonia (7-8) 90-81 in Vitoria. Baskonia was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 20-9 charge of CSKA, which allowed them to win the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Baskonia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Spanish point guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) who scored 25 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. American Will Clyburn (201-90, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Georgian Tornike Shengelia (206-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and Latvian forward Janis Timma (201-92) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Russian champion maintains first place with 12-3 record. Loser Baskonia keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. CSKA will face FC Barcelona (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Baskonia will play against Fenerbahce (#6) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
