Regular Season Round 15: Khimki - FC Barcelona 65-79

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (5-10) defeated on the road higher ranked Russian Khimki (8-7) 79-65 on Friday. Khimki was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. FC Barcelona dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to Khimki's 18. They outrebounded Khimki 37-17 including a 12-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. FC Barcelona looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Khimki's players. The best player for the winners was Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) who scored 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Victor Claver (207-88) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Alexey Shved (198-88, agency: Alti Sport) who recorded 22 points and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and American forward Tyler Honeycutt (203-90, college: UCLA) added 18 points respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Barcelona moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Khimki keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. FC Barcelona will face league's leader CSKA in Moscow in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
