Regular Season Round 16: Olympiacos - EA7 Armani 87-80

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Greek Olympiacos as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (CSKA) loss. Olympiacos defeated 15th ranked Italian Armani Milano in Pireus 87-80. The hosts were already 14 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 27-17 last quarter charge of Armani Milano cut the lead to 87-80 at the end of the game. Olympiacos made 21-of-27 charity shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 7 assists and forward Kostas Papanikolaou (205-90) who added 15 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Andrew Goudelock (190-88, college: Charleston) responded with 20 points and his fellow American import point guard Curtis Jerrells (185-87, college: Baylor, agency: Dutt Sports Services) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Four Olympiacos and five Armani Milano players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with CSKA. Armani Milano lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Anadolu Efes. Armani Milano will play next round against strong CSKA trying to get back on the winning streak. Olympiacos will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Baskonia at Vitoria.
