Regular Season Round 17: Valencia - Fenerbahce 67-80

Date: January 11, 2018
Very expected game when 14th ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (5-12) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Turkish Fenerbahce (11-6) 80-67 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce. Valencia Basket was better in second period 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Fenerbahce won last quarter 29-17. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Valencia Basket to just 7 points in first quarter. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Greek point guard Konstantinos Sloukas (197-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists for the winners and Italian forward Luigi Datome (203-87) chipped in 14 points. Four Fenerbahce players scored in double figures. Belgian point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-86) responded with 8 points and 7 assists and Alberto Abalde (202-95) scored 11 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Turkish champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Real Madrid and Zalgiris. Defending Spanish champion Valencia Basket keeps the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Fenerbahce will face league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valencia Basket will play at home against FC Barcelona (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
