Tenth-ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga (7-10) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (11-6) in Kaunas on Friday. Zalgiris managed to secure only two-point victory 79-77. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 27-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Unicaja Malaga's 30. The best player for the winners was Paulius Jankunas (205-84) who scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. American forward James Augustine (208-84, college: Illinois) produced 12 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) added 11 points and 9 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Real Madrid and Fenerbahce. Loser Unicaja Malaga keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Crvena Zvezda. Zalgiris will meet Brose Baskets (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unicaja Malaga will play against Armani Milano and hope to secure a win.
