There was no surprise when 6th ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (4-9) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Bourges (7-6) 64-60 on Wednesday. Villeneuve D'Ascq was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Forward Valerianne Ayayi (184-94) fired 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Spanish guard Laia Palau (177-79) chipped in 12 points and 9 assists. Four Bourges players scored in double figures. Johanne Gomis-Halilovic (179-85) produced 12 points and 6 assists and British Johannah Leedham (178-87, college: Franklin Pierce) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Villeneuve D'Ascq's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bourges moved-up to third place in Group A, which they share with USK Praha. Villeneuve D'Ascq lost their fifth game in a row. Defending French champion keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Bourges will face league's second-placed Sopron Basket on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Villeneuve D'Ascq will play against Galatasaray (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
