Regular Season Round 21: Anadolu Efes - Valencia 82-66

Bottom-ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses. This time they won against fourteenth-ranked Spanish Valencia Basket in Istanbul 82-66. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 16-point difference suggests that Anadolu Efes is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Anadolu Efes. Valencia Basket was better in third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Anadolu Efes dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Valencia Basket's 28. They outrebounded Valencia Basket 39-28 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Anadolu Efes brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for American point guard Errick McCollum (185-88, college: Goshen) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Slovenian swingman Zoran Dragic (196-89) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Alberto Abalde (202-95) answered with 9 points and 8 assists and American point guard Erick Green (190-91, college: Virginia Tech) added 18 points in the effort for Valencia Basket. Anadolu Efes maintains sixteenth place with 6-15 record. Defending Spanish champion Valencia Basket dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with EA7 Armani and FC Barcelona. Anadolu Efes will play against higher ranked Unicaja Malaga (#11) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valencia Basket will play against the league's leader CSKA where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
