Regular Season Round 22: Panathinaikos - Baskonia 80-76

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Spanish Baskonia (10-12) lost to fifth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (14-8) in Athens 76-80 on Thursday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-76. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American James Gist (206-86) notched 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the other American import power forward Chris Singleton (206-89, college: Florida St.) supported him with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Even 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by Georgian Tornike Shengelia (206-91) did not help to save the game for Baskonia. French guard Rodrigue Beaubois (185-88) added 15 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending Greek champion moved-up to fourth place. Loser Baskonia keeps the ninth position with 12 games lost. Panathinaikos will meet Khimki (#6) on the road in the next round. Baskonia will play against the league's leader CSKA in Moscow and hope to secure a win.
