Everything went according to plan in Pireus where third ranked Greek Olympiacos (16-7) beat 13th ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (8-15) 80-70 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Olympiacos. Valencia Basket managed to win second period 28-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 25 points and 9 assists. Serbian center Nikola Milutinov (212-94) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Swingman Fernando San-Emeterio (199-84) produced 19 points and American-Georgian Will Thomas (203-86, agency: Two Points) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Fenerbahce. Defending Spanish champion Valencia Basket keeps the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Olympiacos will meet Panathinaikos (#5) in the next round. Valencia Basket will play against Brose Baskets (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
