We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Bamberg where 11th ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (9-14) was crushed by twelfth ranked German Brose Baskets (9-14) 86-62 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-62. Brose Baskets made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Brose Baskets outrebounded Crvena Zvezda 38-25 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 60.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was American forward Dorell Wright (206-85) who scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Serbian power forward Dejan Musli (213-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. Four Brose Baskets players scored in double figures. French center Mathias Lessort (206-95, agency: BeoBasket) produced 12 points and 6 rebounds and American-Montenegrin point guard Taylor Rochestie (185-85, college: Washington St.) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Defending German champion moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated Crvena Zvezda. Brose Baskets will meet Valencia Basket (#13) on the road in the next round. Crvena Zvezda will play against Unicaja Malaga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
