Very predictable result in Istanbul where seventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (14-9) defeated bottom-ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (6-17) 86-70 on Friday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-70. Zalgiris made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 11 points and 6 assists. American Aaron White (206-92, college: Iowa) chipped in 15 points (perfect from the field making all six shots). American point guard Errick McCollum (185-88, college: Goshen) produced 14 points and the other American import point guard Toney Douglas (188-86, college: Florida St.) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Anadolu Efes stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Zalgiris will meet at home FC Barcelona (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Anadolu Efes will play against Armani Milano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
