Regular Season Round 24: Panathinaikos - Olympiacos 85-87

The most exciting game of round 24 in the Euroleague took place in Athens. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Panathinaikos (14-10) to second ranked Olympiacos (17-7) 87-85 on Friday evening. 32 personal fouls committed by Panathinaikos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Brian Roberts (187-85, college: Dayton) chipped in 18 points. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 assists and American James Gist (206-86) added 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Olympiacos have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-7 record having just two points less than leader CSKA, which they share with Fenerbahce. Defending Greek champion Panathinaikos keep the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Real Madrid and Khimki. Olympiacos is looking forward to face Brose Baskets (#13) in Bamberg in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Panathinaikos will play on the road against Real Madrid (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
