Regular Season Round 25: Valencia - Baskonia 71-81

Rather expected game when 12th ranked Valencia Basket (9-16) lost at home to ninth ranked Baskonia (12-13) 81-71 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 28-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Baskonia dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Valencia Basket's 32. They outrebounded Valencia Basket 35-23 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for Brazilian-Italian point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 7 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). German center Johannes Voigtmann (211-92) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. Swingman Fernando San-Emeterio (199-84) answered with 15 points and Montenegrin power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) added 12 points in the effort for Valencia Basket. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia maintains ninth place with 12-13 record. Defending Spanish champion Valencia Basket keeps the twelfth position with 16 games lost. Baskonia will face higher ranked Zalgiris (#5) in Kaunas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valencia Basket will play on the road against Crvena Zvezda (#11) in Beograd and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
