Regular Season Round 26: Baskonia - Zalgiris 84-64

An interesting game took place in Vitoria where higher ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (15-11) were upset on the court of ninth ranked Spanish Baskonia (13-13) 84-64. The game was mostly controlled by Baskonia. Zalgiris was better in fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Baskonia forced 21 Zalgiris turnovers. Uruguayan-Italian guard Jayson Granger (189-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points. French power forward Vincent Poirier (210-93) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 11 points and 4 assists and Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) added 12 points in the effort for Zalgiris. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Baskonia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Maccabi T-A. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. Baskonia's next round opponent will be Brose Baskets (#11) in Bamberg. Zalgiris will play at home against Armani Milano (#13) and hope to win that game.
